Role description

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to be part of an exciting Quality Improvement project looking to improve outcomes of children with speech, language and communication needs open to Acute CAMHS and Youth Justice Specialist Nursing (YJSN).

You will work as part of the Youth Justice Specialist Nursing (YJSN) and acute CAMHS services of Sowenna and the Multi-Agency Rapid Response Service (MARRS) to support children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) through specialist assessments, intervention and advice , as well as provide consultation, advice and training for health teams and the wider related workforce.

You will work alongside the community speech and language therapy service and other SaLTs in specialist roles, such as therapists working in the Kernow and Isles of Scilly Keyworking Service (KIOSK) and CAMHS Learning Disability Team, to ensure SLCN pathways interlink and the right team is providing the right support at the right time. You will have access to clinical supervision from an experienced speech and language therapist.

This is a countywide role and will involve travel across the Cornwall.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification)
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Highly developed skills of clinical assessment, evaluation and intervention for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Clinical experience of working with autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs
  • Have evidence of attending and using specialist knowledge gained from post-graduate study and attending courses.

Desirable

  • Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Highly skilled in supporting colleagues and team members with clinical, professional and other needs.
  • Strong knowledge of the links between SLCN, mental health and Youth Justice Service
