Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist within our innovative Multi-Agency Rapid Response Service (MARRS). Based at the Sowenna Unit, Bodmin, this post offers the chance to lead and shape a highly regarded crisis service supporting children and young people experiencing significant mental health difficulties across Cornwall.

MARRS is a countywide, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency service operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing rapid assessment, intervention and intensive support to young people in mental health crisis. Working across community, acute hospital and social care settings, the service collaborates closely with paediatrics, police, children's social care, education and inpatient services to ensure timely, compassionate and effective care for young people and their families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide senior medical leadership to the specialist countywide crisis service supporting children and young people experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, formulation and treatment for children and young people presenting with complex and acute mental health difficulties.

  • Delivering clinical leadership within the MARRS multidisciplinary team.

  • Supporting the delivery of a 24/7 crisis response service.

  • Providing medical input to risk assessment, care planning and treatment formulation.

  • Leading on Mental Health Act assessments for young people known to the service where required.

  • Working collaboratively with community CAMHS teams, inpatient services and partner agencies to provide alternatives to hospital admission and facilitate safe, timely discharge from inpatient care.

  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings, safeguarding processes, Child Protection reviews and multi-agency planning meetings.

  • Participating in the education and training of undergraduate medical students, resident doctors and other healthcare professionals, supporting the Trust's commitment to developing the future workforce

Experience

Essential

  • CCT/ or equivalent in CAMHS
  • substantial experience of managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems
  • Evidence of working within a community mental health setting

Desirable

  • participation in user involvement in services

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Experience of assessing and treating young patients and families in acute & community psychiatric settings, and ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems in child and adolescent psychiatry
