Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential

• Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (as approved by HCPC/BPS) Or Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (as approved by HCPC/BPS). Or Doctorate in Forensic Psychology / BPS doctoral-level Qualification in Forensic Psychology (Stage 2) (as approved by HCPC/BPS) Or Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (Postgraduate doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology or its equivalent for those trained before 1996 or outside the UK), as approved by the HCPC; including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
• Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice, including training in supervision skills.
• Relevant prior experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist in adult mental health or an associated client group where the experience gained is relevant and transferable.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and verbal and physical abuse.
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
• Experience of working autonomously within the professional guidelines of the British Psychological Society and the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, clinical interventions, and case management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
• Well-developed skills in effectively communicating, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
