Role description
Job summary
This is a post in general and neonatal paediatrics. The appointee will work alongside junior medical team. During the period wide basic paediatricexperience is gained. There are weekly Paediatric Meeting and Teaching Sessions. There are regular Audit Meetings held within the Departmentand jointly with the Accident and Emergency Department and the Obstetricians.
The Hospital Paediatric Department is based at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and consists of one Paediatric Assistant Unit (PAU), a purpose-built Paediatric Out-Patient Department and Neonatal Unit. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics.
The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health consists of:
o 24 bedded acute inpatient unit at Lincoln County Hospitalo Paediatric day assessment unit at Lincoln County Hospitalo Local Neonatal Unit(Level 2) at Lincoln County Hospitalo 12 bedded paediatric assessment unit at Pilgrim Hospital, Bostono Level 1 neonatal unit at Pilgrim Hospital, Bostono Outpatient clinics that are conducted both at Lincoln and Boston along with a number of outreach clinics throughout the county of Lincolnshireo Both sites also have a number of visiting speciality consultants including nephrology, endocrinology and cardiologyo Both primary sites offer day surgery
Main duties of the job
1. GENERAL PAEDIATRICS: The in-patient service is based on one the Paediatric Assessment Unit. The ST1-3 may be called out to Accident& Emergency to give advice or deal with emergencies. The Out-Patient Department is based at the Pilgrim Hospital and, depending on grade,the post holder will be expected to attend Out-Patients regularly. These sessions include Boston-based and visiting Consultants.
2. NEONATAL PAEDIATRICS: The tier 1 doctors (this post) are supervised by the tier 2 doctors (ST4 and above/Specialty Doctors) atresuscitation on the labour suite, on the post natal wards and on the neonatal unit. The unit currently takes neonates up to 34 weeks. Infants withsurgical problems and extreme prematurity are transferred to either Lincoln County Hospital or sub regional centres. Further experience ofpractical procedures will be gained.
3. TEACHING: The ST1-2's are occasionally involved in teaching Nursery Nurses, Student Nurses and Midwives.
