Job summary
Delivering high-quality perioperative care and supporting patients throughout their surgical journey, from preparation through to theatre transfer and handover. Working collaboratively with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Recovery Practitioners and theatre colleagues to ensure operating lists run safely and efficiently. Undertaking scrub and/or anaesthetic practitioner duties in line with your professional registration, training and competencies. Preparing theatre environments, instruments, equipment, medications and consumables to support safe and effective surgical procedures. Participating in the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, team briefs and debriefs to promote patient safety and best practice. Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring all theatre documentation is completed accurately and contemporaneously. Monitoring patients throughout the perioperative pathway, escalating concerns and responding appropriately to changes in clinical condition. Supporting clinical governance activities, including audits, incident reporting, infection prevention and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues while contributing to a positive, collaborative and patient-focused team culture.
Main duties of the job
Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with current professional registration. Previous perioperative experience within a theatre environment, with experience in scrub and/or anaesthetic practice. Strong clinical knowledge and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and safety. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritise workload and remain adaptable in a fast-paced surgical environment. Evidence of ongoing professional development and a proactive approach to learning and maintaining clinical competencies. Flexibility to work shift patterns, including weekends and participation in the on-call rota to support service needs.
