Company Description

We’re Together. For over 50 years, we’ve helped thousands of people, businesses and professionals unlock their property ambitions with our common-sense approach to mortgages and secured loans.

We take the time to understand our customers and our door is always open, so we can often help when other lenders can’t or won’t. Based in Cheadle, Cheshire, our 750 colleagues help our customers throughout the UK, backed by the power of a £7 billion loan book.

As a Tax Specialist you will be working directly with the Tax Manager on all tax-related matters within the Group. You will be providing assistance with day-to-day queries, managing tax cash flows, delivering cross-tax compliance, supporting the maintenance and management of the Group’s tax policies, procedures and documentation, assisting with Research and Development Claims and Capital Allowances claims and supporting the delivery of project-based tax advice.

This role will involve supporting the Tax Manager, the Group Finance Director and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with UK tax laws and regulations. This includes supporting the Group Financial Director and Chief Financial Officer under the SAO regime.

This is a great role for a Tax Senior/Assistant Manager seeking their first move into an in-house industry role, who already has 3-5 years UK Tax experience and is looking to develop further in-house. The Tax team is a close-knit team, forming part of an award-winning wider Finance Team in a thriving and successful business.

As a Tax Specialist we are looking for someone to:

Support the Tax Manager with all aspects of corporation tax compliance, including preparation, review, and filing of tax returns.

Assist in the preparation of tax provisions for financial reporting purposes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Partner with and provide tax input to the wider business including Treasury, HR, Procurement and Group Technology Services (IT).

Deliver tax projects and initiatives as required.

Assist the process of identifying and assessing R&D tax relief opportunities, working closely with the Tax Manager and relevant departments to gather necessary information and documentation.

Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations, working with the Tax Manager to assess their impact on the organization and support the implementation of necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.

Support VAT compliance activities, including preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and timely filing.

Essential

Proven experience working in a practice corporation tax role supporting larger clients.

Experience using corporation tax software (Alphatax, Alphatax cloud, OneSource/Digita)

Good understanding of tax accounting

Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Strong focus on the quality of work with attention to detail

Desire to learn and develop new skills

Organised and efficient with an ability to work under pressure and deliver to agreed deadlines
