Role description

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Whole time Specialty Doctor to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be involved in the provision of Breast Services primarily for outpatient clinics.

These sessions will mainly involve assessment of patients referred into the one stop clinic as well as review of breast cancer follow-up patients as needed (the trust has implemented personalised patient initiated follow up) .

There will also be training available (if needed) to support the Family History services.

Attendance in theatre to assist can be arranged if of interest to the successful candidate.

There will not be an on-call commitment, and no weekend commitments.

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Experience/ Entry Criteria

Essential

  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice
  • Qualifications required for post MRCS/ MRCP / MRCGP
  • A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty or able to demonstrate equivalent experience and competencies
  • Ability to manage a one stop breast clinic independently including performing clinical biopsies
  • Attendance at communication skills course

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent Fellowship or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a UK breast unit
  • Experience in conducting family history assessments

Management and Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of management & clinical governance issues

Audit/Research

Essential

  • An understanding of the issues of clinical effectiveness and audit
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
