Role description
Job summary
This is a 12-month fixed-term post. The appointee would be based in the Cardiology Directorate at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester Foundation NHS Trust. The role will combine working alongside and supporting Consultant Cardiologists and specialist nurses within the TAVI service both in the Cath Lab, outpatient, MDT and ward settings. There is no on-call commitment. This post is suitable for individuals who have completed (or are close to completing) their general cardiology and interventional training, who are seeking a period of dedicated training in TAVI. It is strongly preferred that you have a UK CCT in interventional cardiology or are within 1 year of obtaining one. At least one year of working in the NHS in a senior middle grade position is essential.
Progression will be according to your skill and aptitude with most fellows achieving sign off as first operator in at least one TAVI valve platform. You will have exposure currently to Edwards Sapien Resilia, Medtronic Evolut FX+, Biosensors Allegra and Meril Octacor. The Jenna valve is expected to come online this year.
In addition, you will receive high quality training in the analysis of TAVI CT via 3 mensio. We are a national training centre for this modality.
Main duties of the job
This post offers a structured training opportunity in TAVI with exposure to other forms of structural valve intervention. The role includes ward rounds, outpatient clinics, MDT & catheter lab sessions, with direct training from experienced consultant proctors & highly skilled operators across several valve platforms including Edwards Sapien, Medtronic Evolut, & Biosensors Allegra. The trainee will gain exposure to advanced procedural techniques such as cusp overlap deployment, bicuspid TAVI, alternative access procedures & cerebral protection devices. There will be advanced training in TAVI CT analysis. The unit has recognised expertise in TAVI, including low pacemaker rates, experience with bicuspid disease, alternative access /& involvement in national and international consultant training. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute the academic output of the department with dedicated job-planned time to support this. The MDT includes interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, TAVI nurses, imaging specialists, interventional radiology & vascular surgical support. Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, with an interest in cardiac imaging, valvular heart disease, experience in interventional cardiology & research. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, alongside the ability to work independently & within a team. MRCP, 1 year NHS middle grade experience & UK professional registration, or eligibility for registration are required.
