Role description
Job summary
The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.
The post will work into the assessment and navigation service at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) supporting the Front Door Service 7 days per week and also into the Urgent Care Centers at Wansbeck General Hospital and North Tyneside general Hospital. This will include weekend and evening work on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job
As a qualified General Practitioner (GP) your role is to provide acute primary care to patients who walk-in or are referred via NHS 111. This includes dealing with patients presenting with minor illness, more serious illness (needing an assessment and onward referral / transfer to secondary care) and minor injuries (training / support available).
You will also support the developing Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Practitioners (CPs) and GP Registrars in their assessment and management of primary care illness whilst on shift (part of an ongoing workforce development program).
There is also the opportunity to join the NSECH Front Door Service which provides Nurse Practitioner led streaming and rapid assessment of walk-in patients to NSECH ('pre-ED') and direction to the most appropriate service for their immediate health needs. Destination options include the Assessment and Navigation Service (ANS), Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care (Acute Medicine / Surgery / Gynaecology), off-site UTC or self-care. Shadowing sessions, training sessions and live assessment prior to commitment are provided as this role is not suited to everyone. Training and support are given.
