Job Title: Pre-analytics Supervisor

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in the Pre-analytics section in Laboratory Medicine who are looking for a team of dedicated, enthusiastic people to join our team of Pre-analytics (Reception) supervisors. They are a core part of the team providing on-going support to patients and clinical staff. This is a key leadership role within Pre-analytics which will broaden your experience and provide a rewarding challenging work environment. Previous NHS laboratory experience is an advantage although full training for the role will be provided.

ABOUT THE TEAMThe department operates between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week (including weekends and bank holidays). 8pm to 8am are covered by the shift associate practitioners. We are looking for individuals to work on a full-time basis Monday to Friday 0800-1600 on a few occasions and mainly from 1200-2000. This will include working some weekends and Bank holidays. Job description

Job responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include being a effective, flexible and compassionate team member with good leadership skills and troubleshooting skills; Able to prioritise work and adapt to changing circumstances whilst remaining calm and supportive; be able to provide clear, balanced support to Biomedical support workers and lead by example; and report to the Pre-analytics lead.

You would be responsible for (but not limited to the following):

1. Maintaining long-term consistency in the level of service the support team provide. Promoting and exhibiting the Trust values and Pre-analytics values and treating individuals with respect and dignity.

2. Processing a range of pathological specimens for screening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes and provide accurate, timely and appropriate data. Data entry and sample preparation in our specimen reception areas.

3. Able to prioritise samples received into the laboratory arriving via patients, staff and the pneumatic sample delivery tube and having overview of day-to-day workflow and workload.

4. Dealing with enquiries from patients and clinical staff over the telephone and face to face.

5. Organising reception staff to perform duties within reception, receiving supplies, load the track and some analysers.

6. Demonstrating an organised and thorough approach to their work.

7. Assisting with quality management systems tasks such as SOP writing, audit, EQA/IQC, validation/verification under direction of registered Healthcare Scientists.

8. Assist in the supervision of trainee and laboratory support staff.; Plan rosters for laboratory support staff as required.; Carry out basic people management functions (e.g. appraisal, return to work discussion, recruitment)

9. Working on the late shift up to 2000 and some weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • GCSE grade 4 and above (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science
  • Science focussed Foundation degree or equivalent Or IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part 2 or equivalent Or Level 4-degree apprenticeship in healthcare science or equivalent

Desirable

  • Previous knowledge of hospital IT systems
