Job summary

Porter - Community for D2a/TOCT/TOCH: Fixed term - 30 hours

To provide safe, compassionate, and person-centred care and support to patients during their transfer from hospital to their community discharge destination. The post holder will be responsible for driving Trust transport vehicles and safely transporting patients to their discharge destination. They will assist with patient mobility, comfort, and wellbeing throughout the journey, ensuring patients are transported safely, with dignity and respect. The post holder will work closely with clinical teams, patients, families, and community services to support timely and effective hospital discharge, ensuring appropriate handovers and adhering to NHS policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements.

This is due to the position not meeting the minimum salary threshold of £25,000 per annum and the required skill levelset by UK Visas and Immigration.

Main duties of the job

  • Transport patients anywhere in hospital using wheelchairs, trolleys and/or beds
  • Use the Trust IT / electronic systems
  • Change oxygen and other gas cylinders following training
  • Move mattresses and beds, complying with Trust manual handling techniques
  • Move dirty laundry and replace with clean linen
  • Collect/deliver drugs and samples to/from pharmacy/wards/departments
  • Carry out all waste management functions as requested
  • Transport meal trolleys to and from wards and to and from the kitchen.
  • Use electric tugs to move food trolleys and heavy equipment around the site
  • Move equipment safely throughout the hospital and patient home
  • Move office furniture and equipment
  • Fire warden duties as and when required
  • Assist Security Officers as and when required
  • Ensuring that correct and safe methods of work are employed at all times with extra care shown to the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
  • Checking of equipment prior to use to ensure all faults are reported to the Clinical lead /ADM as they develop.
  • Reporting any accidents / dangerous occurrences to the Clinical leads/ ADM.
  • Attend relevant statutory and non-statutory training.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with departmental training and Trust policies and codes of practice.
