Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner / Anaesthetic Nurseto join our Theatre team and play a vital role in providing safe and effective care to patients undergoing surgical procedures at Homerton. This is an exciting time at Homerton, we have just opened our two new Day Surgery Theatres and have recently gotten a second Da Vinci Robot for theatres.The role will cover both Main and Day Surgery Theatre suites. We are looking for applicants who are committed and motivated to provide excellent care to the patients of City and Hackney and join part of the Multidisciplinary Team. **This advert may close earlier than the closing date due to a high number of applicants**

Main duties of the job

The role is to provide safe, high-quality and evidence-based post-operative care to patients in recovery, while contributing to team leadership and effective management. The post holder will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care independently, maintaining dignity, privacy, confidentiality and compassionate communication.

They will act as a positive role model and expert resource, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and following professional and Trust standards. Responsibilities include prioritising workload, supporting timely theatre starts, admissions and discharges, managing risks, reporting incidents, maintaining staffing, and contributing to service improvement, clinical governance and CQC standards.

The post holder may undertake leadership duties, support staff development, mentor students and junior staff, and contribute to teaching, research, audit and evidence-based practice. They will maintain professional development through reflection, appraisal and training.

They must follow infection prevention, health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and equality requirements, including hand hygiene, PPE and aseptic practice. Current NMC/HCPC registration and mandatory training must be maintained.

The service operates Monday to Saturday, including rotational weekend working. Staff are expected to demonstrate responsibility, respect, safety, personal care and inclusion while delivering safe, personalised, patient-centred care.
