Introduction

Spire Dunedin Hospital is looking for a Ward Manager to lead our Surgical Ward on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager, Sister or Charge Nurse to join a well-established team, providing both clinical and managerial leadership whilst helping to shape the patient experience and support the development of colleagues.

We're looking for a confident and experienced leader who is passionate about delivering high standards of patient care, strengthening team performance and driving continuous improvement. About the Role

As a Ward Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the Surgical Ward, ensuring patients receive outstanding care throughout their hospital journey whilst maintaining high standards of quality, safety and operational performance.

Working closely with nursing colleagues, consultants, senior clinical leaders and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the Surgical Ward.
  • Manage the day-to-day operational performance of the ward, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Provide visible clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing team.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, induction and ongoing development of colleagues.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Surgical Ward team, supporting colleagues to grow, succeed and deliver outstanding patient care.
  • Promote a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Manage patient feedback and complaints effectively, using learning to enhance the patient experience.
  • Ensure governance, audit, risk management and regulatory requirements are embedded within daily practice.
  • Work closely with the Head of Clinical Services to drive quality, performance and service development.

Who we're looking for:

Contract: Fixed Term - 12 Months

Days/Hours: Full Time, Monday - Friday, variable shifts

  • NMC Registered Nurse with no restrictions on practice.
  • A minimum of two years' experience managing a ward and leading a clinical team is essential.
  • Previous experience within a Surgical Ward environment is essential.
  • Minimum of five years' nursing experience gained within an acute setting.
  • Previous experience as a Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager, Sister or Charge Nurse.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, develop and performance-manage clinical teams.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional patient care and patient experience.
  • Clinical leadership training or management-related CPD would be advantageous.
