Job summary
Wells Health Centre is looking for a friendly, organised and motivated Medical Secretary to join our supportive primary care team.
This is an important role within the practice, providing high-quality administrative and secretarial support to our clinical team and helping to ensure that patients receive a smooth, efficient and professional service. You will work closely with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals, supporting areas such as medical correspondence, referrals, patient records, appointments and communication with hospitals and other services.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, reliable and able to manage a varied workload while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality at all times. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure are essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a busy multidisciplinary team and would like to develop their career within primary care. Previous NHS or general practice experience would be advantageous, although we welcome applications from candidates with strong transferable administrative and secretarial skills.

Main duties of the job
The Medical Secretary will provide efficient and confidential administrative and secretarial support to the clinical team, helping to ensure the smooth running of the practice and a high-quality service for patients.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing administrative and secretarial support to GPs, nurses and other clinical staff.
- Preparing, typing and processing clinical correspondence, reports and other documentation accurately and promptly.
- Processing referrals and supporting the coordination of patient care with hospitals, community services and other healthcare providers.
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including electronic communications.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with practice procedures.
- Liaising professionally with patients, healthcare professionals, hospitals and external organisations by telephone, email and in writing.
- Handling confidential and sensitive information in line with GDPR, information governance and practice policies.
- Monitoring and actioning tasks, results and correspondence within agreed timescales.
