Role description

Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we are proud to provide expert, compassionate care for our local population. We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.

Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

This post being offered is until October 2027 on the SHO rota tier. This is covering a gap in the rota due to a trainee going out of programme – leaving a current gap in the rota until October 2027 Deanery rotations. This is working 1:12 oncall rota alongside FY2, GPST1/2 and O+G ST1/2 doctors. Previous obstetrics and gynaecology experience is desirable but not essential. Main rostered duties include daytime and night oncalls (including weekends) for obstetrics and gynaecology, maternity assessment, postnatal ward and caesarean section lists, antenatal and gynaecology clinics and gynaecology theatres. You would be supported in undertaking training in procedural skills such as instrumental and caesarean birth to support your development if suitable. Self Development Time is included in the rota. You would be encouraged to attend departmental teaching and meetings that occur through the month.
