Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Cornea to join Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust within the North Division.
This exciting full-time locum opportunity offers the chance to play a key role in establishing and leading a new corneal service across our Stratford and Brent Cross sites, delivering high-quality specialist care to patients with corneal and external eye disease.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-led corneal outpatient and theatre services, undertake clinical assessment and management of new and follow-up patients, support referral triage, participate in clinical audit and governance activities, and contribute to teaching, research and service development within one of the world's leading ophthalmic institutions.
This post offers 9.13 Programmed Activities (7.13 clinical, 1 Supporting Professional Activities and 1 associated administration) with no on-call commitment, providing an excellent opportunity to develop and shape a growing service while working alongside a well-established team of expert corneal consultants.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in establishing and developing a new corneal service across Moorfields' Stratford and Brent Cross sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and leading a new corneal service at Stratford and Brent Cross.
- Delivering consultant-led corneal outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients.
- Undertaking corneal surgery and leading corneal theatre sessions.
- Providing expert clinical care and ensuring high standards of patient-centred treatment.
- Contributing to service development, quality improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Supervising, teaching and supporting junior doctors, medical students, observers and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participating in research, audit and educational activities in line with Moorfields' commitment to innovation and excellence.
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective and high-quality care.
- Supporting performance, quality and governance objectives across the service.
- Contributing to business planning, service development and the continued growth of corneal services within the Trust.
- Maintaining professional standards in line with GMC requirements, appraisal and revalidation processes.
