Job summary
As Corporate Governance Manager, you'll play a vital role in helping NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) deliver its purpose by ensuring strong, effective and compliant governance across the organisation. Working closely with the Board Chair, Company Secretary, Chief Executive and Board members, you'll lead the systems, processes and relationships that support confident decision-making and organisational accountability. You'll provide expert governance advice, oversee the smooth running of Board and committee business, and help strengthen governance arrangements so NHSBT can continue to save and improve lives. Your work will help maintain the quality, transparency and integrity that underpin NHSBT's success.
Main duties of the job
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of NHSBTs corporate governance framework, helping the Board operate effectively, transparently and in line with best practice.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to Board members, senior leaders and colleagues on governance, assurance, compliance and internal controls.
- Coordinate high-quality Board and committee activity, ensuring meetings, papers, minutes and actions support informed decision-making and delivery of strategic priorities.
- Support the Board Chair and Company Secretary to strengthen Board effectiveness, succession planning, member development and governance assurance.
- Build strong relationships across NHSBT and with external stakeholders, acting as a trusted link between the Board and wider partners.
- Manage governance records, systems and reporting processes that promote accuracy, accountability and efficient ways of working.
- Interpret legislation, regulations and national guidance, helping NHSBT adopt robust governance practices and meet statutory requirements.
- Lead and develop the Corporate Governance team, creating opportunities for learning, growth and high-quality performance.
- Review governance performance through audits, research and analysis, identifying opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.
- Deputise for the Company Secretary when required, ensuring continued support for the Board and Executive Team.
The role involves travel on occasion, with overnight stays when required (with appropriate notice).
