Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our established Diabetes and Endocrinology Team at the L&D Hospital as a full time Diabetologist and Endocrinologist.
The specialty commitment of this post includes the provision of specialist and general outpatient clinics, consultant to consultant referrals, GP Advice and Guidance and MDT participation. The post holder will also be expected to participate in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and In-reach rota. This responsibility is shared with other departmental colleagues.
Sub-speciality interests relevant to Diabetes/ Endocrinology will be considered as is an enthusiasm for teaching, audit and research.
The Diabetes service at the L&D is led by Dr Wong with support from Dr Soo, Professor Banerjee, Dr Lim, and Dr Alraheem. The team offers a full range of adult diabetes services and work closely with other specialists often in joint clinics providing MDT care for young adults, pregnancy including gestational diabetes, diabetic foot disease, insulin pump and elderly care.
Professor Banerjee, supported by Dr Soo, Dr Wong, Dr Lim, and Dr Alraheem currently provide the endocrine service. The department has facilities for dynamic testing and radiological diagnostic facilities and provide a range of sub-speciality clinics including hypertension and pregnancy care.

Main duties of the job
The main duties and responsibilities of the post include:
To participate in the provision of a high quality out-patient service, some clinics will have dedicated Specialist Trainee support
Patient administration
Attend multi-disciplinary, governance, departmental and business meetings as required
Develop a research interest
Support the training and development of Specialist Trainees and other junior medical staff including Clinical nurse specialists
Work with other Consultants to provide specialist Diabetes and Endocrinology advice and support to patients and other healthcare professionals
Other Tasks include:
Active participation in the development of the services
Undertake high quality medical audit projects and participate in the collection of data required to meet national audits and national quality standards
Implement audit and research findings as appropriate in clinical practice
Prepare and participate in an annual appraisal in accordance with Trust policy
Participate and comply with the requirements for Continuing Professional Development and revalidation as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians. The trust is committed to providing the time and financial support for these activities
