Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Yeovil District Hospital for a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology on a full time, permanent contract.
This unique post offers the chance to contribute to an established and highly regarded teaching programme delivered in partnership with the University of Bristol Medical School while working within a supportive and experienced O&G team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the education and supervision of undergraduate medical students, helping to deliver a high-quality learning experience for approximately 70 students placed within the hospital each year. Alongside teaching responsibilities, you will gain valuable clinical experience within a busy and diverse Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
You will join a well-established team of consultants and specialist clinicians with interests including:
Urogynaecology
Menstrual Dysfunction
Minimal Access Surgery
Endometriosis
Benign Gynaecological Surgery
Maternal Medicine
Colposcopy
Cancer Fast-Track Services
The Somerset-wide Gynaecological Oncology Service

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for delivering a variety of engaging and innovative teaching sessions, including:
Case-based learning facilitation
Clinical skills teaching
Bedside teaching
Clinical reasoning sessions
Simulation-based training
Student induction sessions
Small-group tutorials
History-taking and examination skills teaching
Inter-Academy Hub teaching sessions
You will also contribute to the assessment and development of medical students through:
OSCE examinations
Workplace-based assessments, including Mini-CEX and Case-Based Discussions
Provision of timely, constructive feedback
Identification of student learning needs and development of appropriate learning objectives
The post holder will act as a professional role model and mentor, supporting students academically and personally. This includes helping identify students who may require additional support and signposting them to appropriate pastoral and educational resources.
Clinical Responsibilities
To support ongoing clinical development, the post includes participation in Obstetrics & Gynaecology services and the resident on-call rota.
Clinical duties will include:
Participation in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology on-call rota (1 in 8 frequency)
Assessment and management of acute obstetric and gynaecology patients
Theatre sessions
Gynaecology outpatient clinics
Antenatal clinics
Exposure to both elective and emergency care across the specialty
