Job summary
Senior Clinical Psychologist Band 8a
(We would also welcome applications from candidates who do not yet meet the criteria for the Band 8a role but would meet the criteria for the Band 7 job description (please see "additional documents" on NHS Jobs).
In these instances, the successful candidate would be appointed to a Development Post role at Band 7. On commencing the role, they will develop a learning development plan with their supervisor and manager to achieve specific competencies within an appropriate timescale. It is expected that this process will be achievable within a period of up to two years and promotion to an 8a post will occur once the plan has been successfully completed.

Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to children and young people and families with complex and severe mental health problems.
Clinically, the post-holder will be responsible for individual case management and will be expected to conduct highly specialist psychological assessments, produce highly complex formulations, and deliver direct therapeutic work.
They will also provide specialist advice and consultation to a range of multiagency professionals and non-professional carers, and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.
The post holder will be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
