Role description

Job summary

To assistwith the management and provision of an efficient and comprehensive administration support for the Specialist Nurses in Rapid Access Chest Pain and Heart Failure within the Cardiology Department.

To manage the speciality administration and workload, ensuringappropriate delegationof tasks to other members of the speciality team. AssisttheCardiologyLeadNurseto develop and support the team on the range of competenciesrequired.

Significantly contribute to the delivery of Trust standards for booking and administration procedures.

Ensure information is recorded on all systems ina timelyfashion, escalating any breaches and updating pathways.

Actively take part in team meetings to ensure the department is flexible in its approach to changing workloads.

Deal sensitively and effectively with telephone enquiries from patients, relatives and colleagues ensuring confidentiality ismaintainedat all times.

Main duties of the job

Manage andmaintaintheCardiology Nurse led Clinic diary and waiting listsensuring appointment slots are fully utilised and bookedin accordance withthe Trust Patient Access Policy

Accurate recording of information

Timely distribution of letters and information, both for Trust and external organisations.

Ensure all administrative processes are adhered to within the speciality team.

To respond to general enquiries to the department

Register referrals onto department computer systemin accordance withTrust and National Booked Admissions Programme procedures.

Record and update patient data on Trust and department computer systems, ensuring that patient information is correct and kept up to date.

UtiliseMedway, Tomcat, Anglia Ice and NHS mail to provide an efficient service for patients, staff and visitors whenrequired.

Undertake MPAs for theCardiology Specialist NurseAdministration team.

Manage annual leave and sickness reporting ensuring all records are updated ina timelyfashion.

To perform allallocatedtasksrequiredto meet the needs of the service.

To undergo training as necessary to meet the needs of new developments within the Service. Toidentifytraining for other members of the team in conjunction with theCardiologyLead Nurse and Cardiology Service Manager.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Holds GCSE English Language at Grade A - C (or equivalent)
  • ECDL or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 Business and Administration

Experience

Essential

  • Previous NHS administration experience
  • Experience of working with general public and/or professionals
  • Experience of using Careflow(Patient Admissions System) and CVIS (Tomcat) booking database

Desirable

  • Experience of staff management

  • Ability to teach others acquired knowledge and skills

  • Understanding and working practice of NHS performance targets including 6 week diagnostic & 18-week referral to treatment times
