Spire Bushey Hospital forms part of a 4 site portfolio, and is supported by and works alongside Spire Bushey Diagnostic Centre, Elstree Cancer Centre and Spire Pathology Centre based on Centennial Park in Elstree - just 5 minutes from the main hospital site.
Main duties of the job
As a Respiratory Physiologist, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive respiratory diagnostic service, including:
- Performing and interpreting a full range of routine respiratory investigations.
- Conducting Full Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) including:
- Slow Spirometry
- Forced Spirometry
- Gas Transfer Testing (DLCO)
- Body Plethysmography (Body Box)
- Respiratory Muscle Strength Testing (MIP/MEP and SNIP)
- Bronchodilator Reversibility Testing
- Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) Testing
- Six Minute Walk Tests
- Assessing patients and obtaining relevant clinical information to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Explaining procedures clearly to patients, obtaining informed consent and providing reassurance throughout the investigation process.
- Monitoring patient wellbeing during diagnostic procedures and responding appropriately to any complications or concerns.
- Interpreting and documenting test results accurately, communicating significant findings to the wider clinical team as required.
- Maintaining accurate patient records in line with departmental, clinical and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring all respiratory diagnostic equipment is maintained, calibrated, quality assured and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
- Working collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
- Promoting best practice, patient safety, equality and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.
