Role description

Job summary

This is a role for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist to lead and develop Later Life Psychology Services within Wiltshire Psychological Therapies Service. You will provide strategic, professional and clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for older adults across Wiltshire.

This role combines leadership with direct clinical practice, management and supervision of psychology staff, specialist supervision, and professional leadership to psychology colleagues across BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire. Alongside maintaining a specialist clinical caseload, you will offer expert consultation and advice to multidisciplinary teams, service users, carers, and partner organisations.

Main duties of the job

As Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist, you will help to shape, develop and support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological care for older adults. You will lead service development initiatives that support the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan as outlined in the Community Mental Health Framework for Adults and Older Adults.

The post combines senior leadership with expert clinical practice. You will manage and support a team of psychology professionals and maintain a highly specialist caseload involving complex psychological and neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention.

You will play a key role in service improvement, quality assurance and clinical governance. The role also includes leading and supporting research, service evaluation and audit activities to promote innovation and improve outcomes for older adults.

In addition, you will contribute to workforce development through teaching, training and supporting the development of psychology staff, trainees and the wider multidisciplinary workforce.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • 1.Clinical Psychology qualification or doctoral equivalent AND Registered by the HCPC as a clinical psychologist
  • 2. Relevant Specialist CPD qualification (diploma, advanced therapy training etc).
  • 3. Advanced specialist qualification in neuropsychology or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Advanced specialist qualification in neuropsychology

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • 1. Minimum of 6 years post qualification experience
  • 2. Experience in delivering and interpreting neuropsychological tests AND Specialist knowledge of psychometrics applied to an older adult psychiatric context.
  • 3. Specialist clinical knowledge and skills: (i) Extensive knowledge of specialist assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions with client group (ii)Expert analysis and differential formulation of highly complex case information. (iii) Expert knowledge of one NICE recommended intervention
  • 4.Supervision experience: with Trainee Clinical Psychologists and with other professions.
  • 5. Experience of Lecturing/Teaching/Training Psychologists and other professions
  • 6.R&D and Clinical audit work relevant to role

  • 1.Service development/project work.
  • 2. Ability to use computer spreadsheets for data analysis & software to perform specialist/ advanced data analysis of clinical data.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • 2.Well organised with good administration skills.
  • 3.Empathy/engagement skills with the client group AND Ability to cope with the stress of working with a difficult, potentially hostile, emotionally and behaviourally disturbed client group.
  • 4.Ability to cope with workload pressure/prioritise workload AND ability to work independently
  • 5. Self awareness and emotional resilience; skills in personal supervision.
