Role description
Job summary
Following the successful appointment to a number of our Trust wide vacancies, we are now recruiting to the remaining Band 6 Senior People Advisor opportunity within our Heartlands People Team.
Summer 26 marked an important point for our People Directorate and for our Site based team. After a period of real change and challenge, our teams are coming together with purpose, and this role offers the chance to put the heart in Heartlands by supporting the colleagues and services that sit at the centre of patient care for our communities.
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, offering the chance to step quickly into a high-impact role and provide immediate support to a busy acute hospital team. It is designed to maintain continuity and momentum while also offering valuable development, visibility and exposure within a large and evolving People function where progression is actively supported.
Led by our Senior People Partners, Eugene Komeng and Sukhman Mander, the team works closely with operational and clinical leaders across Heartlands to provide responsive, values-led people support, helping to put the heart in Heartlands for our colleagues and services.
Heartlands is a busy, complex and deeply important part of UHB. This role will suit someone who wants to be close to operational services, build trusted relationships with clinical and non-clinical leaders, and make a visible contribution to staff experience in a hospital where people practice really matters.
Main duties of the job
These roles form part of the natural movement within our service, where colleague development, secondments and maternity leave create opportunities for others to step in, grow and contribute. For the right individuals, this is a chance to build experience, visibility and capability within a complex and fast-paced NHS environment.
You will thrive in this role if you are able to recognise patterns where others see noise, ask difficult questions with compassion, and bring clarity, structure and calm to complex situations. You will understand the balance between urgency and importance and be motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to staff experience.
The core expectation is clear: you will be someone colleagues turn to when things are tough, complex or sensitive. You will lead on challenging employee relations matters, support leaders through difficult workforce and cultural issues, and use insight and evidence to influence decision-making. You will build trusted relationships across clinical and non-clinical areas and bring both professional judgement and humanity to your work, helping to create the conditions for improved staff and patient outcomes.
You will be visible, respected and, at times, relied upon. Just as importantly, you will be supported by an experienced AD of People and a directorate of specialist colleagues who understand the realities of delivering HR in today's NHS.
