Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse Part Time 25.8hrs per week permanent Paediatric Oncology under 13's Are you an experienced Band 6 nurse, or a confident Band 5 ready to take the next step?We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team on T11 North, caring for children aged 1 to 13yrs and their families with an oncology diagnosis.Our patients undergo a range of treatments including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, proton beam and molecular radiation treatment. We also provide palliative care when required.
We are a 10 bedded unit with a 5 bedded daycare area to provide supportive care for our outpatients and ambulating PBT and Radiotherapy children.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a registered children's nurse with at least 2 years experience in paediatric oncology, excellent communication skills and someone who will be proactive in leading the team.
This will include:
Leading shifts as the Nurse in charge and support the rest of the team. Allocate and assess acuity of patients. Optimize staffing skill mix, managing patient flow by coordinating safe admissions, transfers and discharges.
Support the senior team in completing audits and ward management and service improvement.
Actively contribute towards quality improvement projects, safeguarding, PEWS, Martha's Rule
You will use your expert clinical skills to deliver top quality, child centered and holistic care to cancer patients and their families.
Supervise the band 5's and HCA's and act a practice assessor for students.
Competencies in paediatric clinical skills, including complex intravenous drugs, chemotherapy and blood.
Communication and interpersonal skills to support anxious and stressed families and work within our MDT.
Identify and escalate clinical risks or safeguarding concerns promptly.
