Band 4 transitioning to Band 5 once all course modules are completed, full clinical hours are gained as part of the training year and notification has been received from the university of a successful pass. Upon successful completion of the course you are expected to register with the BABCP or BPS and pay your annual fees.
The trainee CWP posts are training positions subject to successful completion of the course. Candidates will be expected to travel to Northampton University in the first year to complete their training. Attendance at university can be up to five days per week initially but does reduce considerably over the course to become more practical based.
Main duties of the job
The Mental Health Support Team for schools and colleges in the Black Country will be supporting approximately 365 settings in 2027 and is designed to deliver three core functions:
Evidence-based interventions for mild-to-moderate mental health issues;
To support thesenior mental health leadin each school or college to introduce or developwhole school or college approach
Provide timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist service to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.
During your training year you will develop skills and competencies to deliver short term interventions to young people in schools and colleges throughout the localities where they demonstrate a need for support with their emotional health and wellbeing. Some community work will also be required dependent on the needs of the young person and their family and how the service expands and develops.

As a trainee Child Wellbeing Practitioner you will be expected to work under supervision as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas and ways of working to support children and young people are actively encouraged. This approach requires flexibility and adaptability, and above all a passion for working with children and young people in educational settings. Over the course of the training year, the post-holder will, under supervision, develop knowledge and practice skills to employ a range of evidence based interventions for common mental health problems such as anxiety, low mood and friendship difficulties via direct individual and group support for children, young people and their parents, in line with the university expectations.

The Trainee Child Wellbeing Practitioner is required to:
Demonstrate the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health
Experience of working with children and young people, their families and the network around the child.
Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties
Experience of working in or with education although this is not essential
The Qualified Child Wellbeing Practitioner role:
Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence informed interventions autonomously
Continue to develop and practice evidence-based skills to work directly with children, young people and families.
Continue to develop and practice evidence-based skills to carry out holistic and child-centered mental health assessments, including risk assessments.
Upon completion of the training, the role will encompass working with children and their families, teaching staff and relevant agencies involved with the childs network. The practitioner will require the ability to provide appropriate intervention in-line with NICE Guidelines and utilise the relevant psychological therapies measures to ascertain the success of the intervention and agreed outcomes, as well as supporting and empowering children, young people and families to make informed choices about intervention and therapeutic strategies.
The postholder will possess the skills to screen relevant referrals, undertake risk assessments, have the capability to work under pressure, and will require exceptional engagement skills to work with young people and families.
Additionally, the postholder will need to demonstrate the ability to maintain a high standard of patient care and be professionally responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of the program of care provided. There must be a high standard of record keeping and demonstrate user engagement and multi-agency involvement within the assessment process and the development of care planning

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Essential
Holds an undergraduate degree and can demonstrate the ability to study at postgraduate level
A minimum of two years experience of working with children and young people
Has experience of working in an environment that uses targets to demonstrate outcomes.
Must be able to travel to university in Northampton and the Black Country with ease
Desirable
Has experience of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties
