Role description
Job summary
Step into a role where your work directly protects patients and supports frontline clinical teams. As an Assistant Technical Officer within the Mattress Decontamination Team at King's Mill Hospital, you will play a key part in preventing infection and promoting patient comfort by ensuring dynamic pressure-relieving mattresses are safely collected, thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and returned ready for use.
You will be responsible for transporting mattresses across wards and departments, checking decontamination certification, and meticulously cleaning and disinfecting equipment in line with strict infection prevention and Quality Management System standards. Every mattress must be carefully inspected to ensure it is fully functional, safe, and compliant before being barcoded, tracked, and redistributed.
This is a hands-on, active role requiring attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. You will help ensure the right equipment is available in the right place at the right time -- directly contributing to patient safety, dignity, and high-quality care across the Trust.
If you enjoy practical work, take pride in high standards, and want to make a visible difference to patient wellbeing every day, this is a rewarding and essential role within the healthcare team.

About us
We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust working alongside health and social care colleagues across the county to provide acute and community healthcare services to more than 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
We put the patient at the heart of everything that we do and it is our aim to make sure that every patient is treated as we would want a member of our own family to be treated.
