Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for four Assistant Psychologists (Band 4) to join the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology Services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a service, we are committed to increasing representation within psychological professions, as well as improving access to psychological professions for those who are currently under-represented in clinical psychology. These posts are being advertised with external funding from Health Education England (HEE) to provide a paid opportunity for individuals from ethnic minority groups, socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or with caring responsibilities. We ask that you include a brief statement on this within your application, which will be used as part of the shortlisting process. The posts will be offered on temporary, part-time contracts at approximately 0.5WTE for up to 7 months. At the point of recruitment, there may be some flexibility regarding part-time hours to support applicants who may be in other paid employment roles and/or have caring responsibilities although this cannot be guaranteed. Each role will primarily be based at one of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals sites, which include St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital, and may require travel between hospital sites.

Each role will primarily be based at one of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals sites, which include St James’s University Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital, and may require travel between hospital sites.
The roles will include undertaking clinical assessments and delivering short-term interventions with patients and/or staff within one of the specialist areas: Medicine, Neuropsychology, Staff Psychological Support, or Surgical and Rehabilitation psychology services. Duties will include administering and scoring psychological tests; co-facilitating groups; assessing participants enrolled in research studies; maintaining databases; collecting and analysing data; and assisting with writing papers and research proposals. This may include using Excel databases, undertaking systematic literature searches and retrieval, data entry and analysis using SPSS, and liaising with a range of professional groups. The appointees will be supervised by a clinical psychologist.
The successful candidates will gain a good understanding of the role of clinical psychologists within Clinical and Health Psychology, with opportunities to shadow and observe qualified clinical psychologists. They will receive regular supervision, training and opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD). They will also be able to network with other Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists on placement; there are also opportunities to attend weekly Special Interest Groups related to specific therapeutic models.
