Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Anti-Fraud Investigation Team as an Apprentice Anti-Fraud Investigator.

As part of MIAA's vibrant Anti-Fraud Investigation Team, you will play an essential role, being in the front line of MIAA's continuing response to the threat of fraud. You should be self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills, a have positive approach and willingness to learn. As part of the role, you will be required undertake the Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship and complete the Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist qualification, which upon successful completion will lead to entry into the Government Counter Fraud Profession and to become an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist.

Your work within the Anti-Fraud Investigation Team will allow you to participate in supporting the delivery of MIAA's comprehensive and professional fraud investigation service. Services which are delivered in accordance with the requirements set out in the NHS standard contract and the relevant requirements specified within the Government Functional Standard GovS 013: Counter Fraud.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Counter Fraud Investigator will assist in supporting the delivery of a comprehensive and professional fraud investigation service in line with the requirements set out in the NHS standard contract and the relevant requirements specified within the Government Functional Standard GovS 013: Counter Fraud.

The post holder will be required to:

investigate suspicions of fraud, bribery and corruption, including processing allegations, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and presenting evidence at formal proceedings.
carry out all allocated investigation work to the professional/legislative standards required by the appropriate court/panel.
Assist in the delivery of some proactive anti-fraud work. This will include undertaking tasks to promote an anti-fraud culture, exercises to proactively detect fraud in high-risk areas; and to prevent fraud through the distribution of appropriate awareness materials.
Undertake and successfully complete the Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist Training.
Be able to demonstrate a clear analytical approach to both investigative work and assisting in the delivery of proactive anti-fraud work as required.
Develop the ability to manage and analyse substantial amounts of data, draw sound unbiased conclusions and present findings in an easily understood format.
Have demonstrable understanding of and promote equal opportunities and diversity.
Demonstrate ability to tackle a range of diverse tasks and be able to prioritise/manage work accordingly whilst working to tight deadlines.
Analyse possible avenues and methods of investigation to obtain evidence through various relevant means.
Analyse and understand the financial, accounting, payment and organisational factors relevant to the type and location of the fraud committed. Convert technical information into plain English, suitable for presentation at Court.
Upon request, assist police and other agencies in arrest and search procedures.
Support the planning of interviews with suspects held either at police stations or NHS premises in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984

Educated to A level standard
