Role description

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Regional Paediatric Burns Service at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover. This specialist Band 7 role offers the opportunity to work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team caring for children and young people with burn injuries, complex plastic surgery needs and epidermolysis bullosa. The postholder will provide advanced occupational therapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation across a range of settings including the Burns Centre, inpatient wards, Paediatric Intensive Care, and outpatient clinics. Key areas of practice include scar management, splinting, upper limb and hand rehabilitation, functional assessment, discharge planning and supporting children and young people to maximise independence and participation in everyday activities.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills within a nationally recognised service while working closely with surgeons, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be supported by the Principal Occupational Therapist and will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for children with some of the most complex rehabilitation needs in the NHS.

The post is offered as a fixed-term maternity cover for approximately 8 months (34 weeks) at 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week). It would suit an Occupational Therapist with experience in hand therapy, rehabilitation, burns, plastics, acute care or other related specialties who is looking to broaden their clinical expertise within a regional specialist service.
